about

This one's about trying to be friends with an ex but slowly realising that it just won't work out, I think the words in the chorus speak to that. It's basically saying you can still do all of these things together but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Everything's different.

The song was inspired, funnily enough by going on a tour of a brewery in York with an ex and a few friends for her birthday. I had the words and chords for some of the verses and the chorus in my head almost instantly on the train home. I showed it to James and he came up with the words for the second and fourth verse and the song was done.

lyrics

I felt my head get sore
When we were on the brewery tour
You smiled at me and my head just hurt some more

First you said it'd be okay
Honey you turned and walked
It's not like I'm gonna quit or just sit and wait

Itching under my skin forever
Now that we have been together
stretch my arms out like a tape measure
No difference whatsoever
I could still be your professor
Partner you in sports and leisure
It might relieve some of this pressure
But I don't believe it'll last

You felt your wisdom tooth
Up on the projection booth
I smiled at you and we spoke about our youth

I tried to compensate
For all the time in the day
Your words were what attracted to your face

Itching under my skin forever
Now that we have been together
stretch my arms out like a tape measure
No difference whatsoever
I could still be your professor
Partner you in sports and leisure
It might relieve some of this pressure
But I don't believe it'll last
